Bilingual Beliefs

At ARDB, we believe that Deaf students deserve full and complete access to language. We are committed to a bilingual approach that honors both American Sign Language (ASL) and English as essential, complementary languages for learning, identity development, and lifelong success.
We recognize ASL as a rich, complete language and a critical foundation for communication, cognition, and connection within the Deaf community, while also ensuring meaningful access to English in ways that support literacy, academic achievement, and future opportunities. We value and respect parental choice in determining the educational pathways that best meet their child’s needs, and we partner with families to support informed decision-making.
Central to our beliefs is the understanding that Deaf children thrive when they have regular access to Deaf adults who serve as fluent language models, cultural guides, and mentors. Through this bilingual and community-centered approach, ARDB affirms the right of every Deaf student to language, belonging, and high expectations.
